Vicini Group reaffirms its commitment to DR

SANTO DOMINGO.-The president of the Vicini Group reaffirmed his commitment to continue pushing for the economic and social development of the Dominican Republic through its investments in production and in support of education.

Felipe A. Vicini told this to reporters after the ceremony in which he received the "Prize for Agro-Businessman for 2007" issued by the Dominican Agro-Business Council (JAD) which was attended by President Leonel Fernández and other government officials as well as major agricultural producers.


"We are here today, we believe in the Dominican Republic and we are convinced that only by believing in our country, that has given us so much, can we continue to go forward,", expressed Vicini in his acceptance speech.

The large plaque was given to Vicini by JAD president José Ramón Peralta, who pointed out the contributions and investments made by the Vicini Group in the agricultural sector, in projects with advanced technological applications and their support of national development.

The Vicini Group began operation in the country in 1860, and is the oldest sugar producer in the country. They have the CAEI, Cristóbal Colón and Angelina sugar mills. They are also at work on mechanizing 90% of the sugar cane harvest and increasing production over the next three years.

In December 2007 the group began construction of the sugarcane community called New Cayacoa at a cost of RD$181.2 million. They also on the way to completing the improvement of a cattle farm of 15,000 head of beef cattle, as well as producing mangos and pineapples for export to Europe.

Felipe A. Vicini reported "in an accompanying and parallel manner, the Vicini Group has been increasing its investments in new projects in finance, tourism, real estate, industry and energy." He cited the construction of the Independent financial Center of the Americas and the Cruise Terminal at Sans Souci.
