The PLD instructs its deputies to be flexible on the Political Party Law
They say it will be approved if they can count on the support of the opposition

SD. The Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) instructed the Special Commission of the Chamber of Deputies that is studying several legislative proposals regarding the Laws of Political Parties to be flexible regarding the 5 points in which they have not managed to come to an agreement with the other organizations.
The information was released by Rafael Alburquerque, during a meeting with 82 of the 98 deputies of the PLD bloc, held at the PLD National House, with a group of the Political Committee, headed by the PLD President, Leonel Fernandez.
The coordinator of the commission of the PLD leadership that works on this legislative proposal of the Law of Political Parties which the PLD presented, said that "this is the mandate that the Commission (Special) has received that on those points in which there is still some discussion with the opposition parties, they should show the necessary flexibility in order to now reach an agreement so that the commission can deliver its report starting with the first legislative session."
The former Vice President of the Republic guaranteed that as long as they have the backing of the opposition parties it is the intention of the PLD that this law will be approved in the next ordinary legislative session in order that it can be applied to the 2016 elections.
He assured the public that inside the PLD there is a consensus regarding this legislative proposal.
Alburquerque, as well as the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Abel Martinez, reported that among the points that had not been agreed upon are the reserve quota that the top political leadership positions will have in order to present candidates to elective positions. The PLD argues for 20%, and the other parties suggest that it be between 30% or 33%. Also, the PLD would be disposed to be flexible regarding the proposal that if a person resigns from a party, he loses any position held.
The meeting began with the arrival of Fernandez at 11:50 5 AM, and ended close to 2:00 p.m.
Conep: There is time
The President of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), Rafael Blanco, said that without the electoral and party laws the democratic system "is wobbly". He said that without a strong party system, free competition cannot flourish. He believes there is time to approve these laws and apply them in 2016.
