SD. El Soberano del Pueblo (the People's Sovereign), the Maestro Yaqui Nuñez del Risco quieted the word yesterday at 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon.
Starting today at 11:00 a.m. his remains will be on view at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln, and he will be buried tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Puerta del Cielo Cemetery.
As the owner of a style of presentation on television immersed in culture, Yaqui was the master of a school where numerous figures of contemporary Dominican journalism received their training.
A poet, composer, professor and publicist, he left among his legacy, more than a single phrase - "Cultura con sabrosura -, more than the name of a group -"Las Chicas del Can -, or a song - "Compañera"-, a road through which one will always have to return, characterized by good taste and by the need to appeal to culture each time ethical values are in danger.
After 2076 days of silence, - since that 1 December 2008 - at last, Yaqui Nuñez del Risco can speak forever.
Being essentially a man of the 20th century, he left by way of his legacy a way of projecting the knowledge and richness of the Dominican, without sounding affected or being pedantic. To achieve this marvelous balance was a gift which allowed them to earn the affection of the people and the respect of all the social strata of the Dominican Republic.
Yaqui was not the "Gran Soberano" because of the stinginess of some. Because this also has to be said, the man who exploded the social networks this Monday with messages of love and appreciation towards his existence during the last 75 years, also suffered from slander and vilification and envy. He was also the object of a lampoon written back in the 80s in which he was accused of many things.
What is important is that with the departure of Yaqui a cycle of Dominican television, which belonged to such figures as Freddy Beras-Goico, Rafael Corporan de los Santos, Luisito Marti and others, is now closed.
He leaves his stamp, his influences, his essence, in journalists and producers such as Zoila Luna, Jatna Tavarez, Tania Báez, Socorro Castellanos, Huchi Lora, Nuria Piera, Iván Ruiz, Yuli Carlo, José Jáquez, Jochy Santos and Domingo Bautista, among others. And therefore he helped create the best of Dominican radio and television.
