Figueroa Agosto transferred to New York for safety
He was removed from Puerto Rican jail because of threats against his person
NEW YORK. Jose David Figueroa Agosto entered the Brroklyn detention center in New York yesterday, after his transfer from the federal prison in Guaynabo for security reasons, according to a report circulated by the Primera Hora newspaper in Puerto Rico.
For the last week, the name of Figueroa Agosto has been on the list of inmates to be removed from the prison institution because of the safety risks against them.
According to unofficial versions, other members of his organization were transferred to different federal institutions in the United States.
The federal prisoners are usually transferred to a distribution center in the United States where they are assigned the institutions where they will serve out their sentences.
Last Monday, the San Juan Court overruled the request by the defense of Jose Figueroa Agosto to hold a new trial on the murder of Arnaldo Martinez, known as "Nandy El Gruero".
With this request, the alleged drug trafficker, known in Puerto Rico as "Junior Capsula" attempted to prove that he did not commit the crime for which he was condemned to serve 209 years in jail.
Figueroa Agosto, in jail at the metropolitan detention center in Guaynabo, is facing another federal case for drug trafficking. He was arrested on 17 June 2010 on Loiza Street after an intense manhunt.
