Judge for the Execution of the Sentence in San Cristobal is suspended
SANTO DOMINGO. The Council of the Judicial Power (CPJ) suspended the judge for the Execution of Sentences in the Judicial Department of San Cristobal, Jose Ignacio Medrano Queliz for alleged mistakes in the performance of his duties.
The magistrate is charged with the parole request made by Sobeida Felix Morel, who was the mistress of the Puerto Rican capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto, a process which he postponed until 4 January.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice and the chairman of the CPJ, Mariano German Mejia, headed the working session yesterday, 27 December, together with the other council members.
Judge Medrano Queliz was suspended as of that date, together with the court secretary, Ysabel Milenny Ortiz Sierra, until the investigation that is being carried out is finished.
As a result, the CPJ appointed as the interim magistrate for the Execution of the Sentences, Willys de Jesus Nuñez Mejia, a judge of the Collegiate Tribunal of the Penal Chamber of the Court of the First Instance of San Cristobal.
In substitution of Nuñez Mejia, the CPJ appointed, provisionally, magistrate Pilades E. Hernandez Mendez, a judge of the First Chamber of the Special Justice of the Peace for Traffic.
The role of the Judge for the Execution of the Sentence is a part of the penal process, such as the Instruction (investigative) phase, and the trial itself, so that the post must be surrounded by all of the guarantees and fundamental rights to which benefit the persons found guilty.
