Today is Constitution Day

SANTO DOMINGO. Today different activities will celebrate the 165 anniversary of the first Dominican Constitution of the Republic, proclaimed in San Cirstobal in 1844.

The acts will be held in San Cristobal, the birthplace of the Constitution, and will be headed by the president of the Permanent Commission for Patriotic Anniversaries, Juan Daniel Balcacer and authorities from San Cristobal.

The program of activities will begin at 6:00 a.m. with a dawn serenade of music by the San Cristobal Municipal Band that will travel through the streets of the city and lead up to the flag raising and the National Anthem in front of the Governor's office at 8:00 a.m.

It will be 8:30 when the Te Deum Mass will be offered in memory of the Founding Fathers in the vestibule of the municipal palace and with the presence of the provincial, municipal and governmental authorities of San Cristobal.

Continuing on, the program will include a cornet summons from a member of the Armed Forces, signaling the start of the military and civilian parade that will begin at the fire station.

The activities will culminate at 3 o'clock in the afternoon with a big parachute spectacular at the football (soccer) stadium, carried out by a special corps of the Dominican Air Force.

This 165 anniversary finds the country immersed in the process of proclaiming a new Constitution.
