"Reservation" of candidacies creates storm in PRD
A coffin was placed on 27 de Febrero Avenue
SANTO DOMINGO. The step taken in the latest meeting of the Political Commission of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) that reserves a broad percentage of the candidacies in the upcoming elections has given rise to actions by party militants that protested in several ways their anger. Some party offices were painted black, and others placed coffins in public places.
Yesterday, at the intersection of 27 de Febrero and Maximo Gomez, there was a black coffin with a sign that said "The death of the PRD=The finger of Miguel MNP". On a nearby platform, there was a sign that said: "I am the Emperor Chief and Maximum Leader of the New PRD". In addition, on top of the coffin there was a photograph of Miguel Vargas Maldonado, the PRD president, with such personages as Adolf Hitler and Rafael Leonidas Trujillo. A bird's nest was placed on the head of Vargas Maldonado's image.
