Prosecutor investigates swindlers who promised visas
Moscoso Segarra says that he will establish who is responsible
SANTO DOMINGO. The District Attorney for the National District, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, said he felt that the 49 persons that the United States Embassy identified as posing as employees of the embassy in order to swindle persons with the promise of a visa, were really pulling off some trickery.
Although he did not specify the amount collected for the "errands", he said that the cases will be individualized with the idea of requesting measures of coercion against the accused cheats.
Moscoso Segarra revealed that they were doing the things to try and get a visa, although he observed that no one is given a visa to travel to the United States because some other person asked for it outside of the embassy.
"There is a case of falsification that is being investigated and once this is individualized and the responsibilities are established for each one of the people, coercive measures will be requested."
Moscoso Segarra commented that the Prosecutor's office should have a certification from the National Institute of Forensic Science (INACIF), in order to establish which documents were falsified. As the same time, they can later establish the responsibility of each individual.
The names and photographs of the alleged cheats were given to the District Attorney of the National District. "These persons are not employees of the American Embassy" says a poster on the wall at the Department of Complaints and Problems.
